CLUBS AT A GLANCE:

ART CLUB

Visual language is one of the vital ancient languages and plays a pivotal role in a student’s development. The study of art can be an outlet and can provide quite a few significant benefits to students. Art can relieve stress, which can be a new and intense emotion for secondary school students. Once ensconced in an art club, students may need to brainstorm for new activities to stoke their creative fires.

An art club is a place where students can practice the arts and hone their individual skills. From mixed medium to water color and traditional oil painting, students can find where their unique talents lie and explore new avenues of enrichment and expression.

Teens do collaborate with other artists in the school and further develop their techniques and learn new ones, expand their portfolio and more. Students are often required to work in small groups and learn to work together.

The art community is often tight knit. Students can create life-long, important relationships with others who share a thirst for art.

BOARD GAMES CLUB

Board games are games of mind and talent and are truly a sport for all. Playing board games is a great way to enhance your mental capabilities.

The Board Games Club aims to promote board games as a recreational activity that boosts strategic thinking skills and social interaction. Through playing games, students are able to cultivate a hobby which stimulates the mind towards proactive and rational thinking, encourages decision making skills given the challenging environment, and also inspires self-discipline since the games are time-bound in nature. This club is a platform for students with a common interest in board games to come together to have fun and to build relationships. Board games are intellectually stimulating and fun to play.

Students are equipped with basic skills and strategies for playing at different levels. Students who have achieved the required standards are encouraged to participate in competitions at inter-school and community level. Basic rules and regulations of the games are taught to those students who have had no previous experience.

DRAMA CLUB

Drama is a collaborative form of fine art that sees live performers presenting the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience. The performers may communicate this experience to the audience through a combination of gestures, speech, song, music, and dance. Elements of art, such as painted scenery and stagecraft such as lighting are used to enhance the physicality, presence and immediacy of the experience. Keeping these traditions of drama in mind, the students of the Dramatics Club at Sonshine school meet every Thursday just like any other  club to hone their thespian skills.

The students are introduced to drama and the evolution of stage through a presentation. Lessons on the art of dialogue delivery and the importance of pronunciation while rendering dialogues on stage are presented as well. All this is done to instill confidence in the members and also help them manage stage fright.
